Key Considerations ⊲ Continue to work with neighborhoods and homeowner’s associations to encourage the development and maintenance of private parks and open spaces. ⊲ Require the inclusion of private play - grounds, dog parks, athletic fields, and other amenities within new residential subdivisions. ⊲ Work with private organizations on an as-needed basis to explore the potential of converting private parks and open spaces to public amenities. ⊲ Consider residents’ access to private parks and open spaces as part of future parks locations and determining parks needs to ensure long-term projects and improve- ments are aligned with the true need for park access in Morrisville. ⊲ Explore new greenway and trail projects that link public parks and amenities to private parks and amenities.

The majority of parks and open space in Morrisville are private, including pocket parks, golf courses, and landscape areas that are not open to the public. However, the Town does have easements for public greenways on private property within various neighborhoods. Private parks help to offset and complement public amenities and serve specific neighborhoods, but these assets are not within the Town’s control. This impacts accessibility to open space, long-termmainte- nance, and availability of recreational oppor- tunities to all residents and visitors. to encourage the development and main- tenance of private parks and open spaces. This should include incorporating parks and open spaces as part of new development, in accordance with the Town’s UDO. These facil- ities will continue to be essential to providing recreational opportunities and green spaces in Morrisville.
