Article 11: Interpretation and Definitions Section 11.5. Terms and Uses Defined 11.4.2. Exceptions and Variations
W ORKFORCE H OUSING Housing that is affordable to working households that do not qualify for publicly subsidized housing, yet cannot afford appropriate market-rate housing in the community. Workforce housing is generally considered to be housing that is affordable to households earning between 60 and 150 percent of the median income for the area. X ERISCAPING A landscaping technique that utilizes water conservation practices such as the planting of drought tolerant plants, mulching, and the instillation of efficient irrigation systems. Y ARD An area within a lot that lies between the principal structure(s) on the lot and the nearest lot lines. Yards are further classified as front yards, corner side yards, side yards, and rear yards. Y ARD , C ORNER S IDE The yard between the side facade of the principal structure(s) on a lot and the nearest corner side lot line, and extending between the front yard and rear yard of the lot. Y ARD , F RONT The yard between the front facade of the principal structure(s) on a lot and the front lot line, and extending the full width of a lot. Y ARD , R EAR The yard between the rear facade of the principal structure(s) on a lot and the rear lot line, and extending the full width of the lot. Y ARD , R EQUIRED The area within a lot that extends inward from front, corner side, side, and rear lot lines for the minimum front, corner side, side, and rear setbacks required for the zoning district in which the lot is located, and that is required to remain unoccupied and unobstructed from the ground upward except as may be specifically provided otherwise in this Code. Y ARD , S IDE The yard between the side facade of the principal structure(s) on a lot and the nearest side lot line, and extending between the front yard and rear yard of the lot. Z ONING D ISTRICT An area delineated on the Zoning Map within which a prescribed set of development standards are applied to various types of development. Z ONING D ISTRICT , B ASE A zoning district within which a single set of use, intensity, dimensional, and development standards are applied. Z ONING D ISTRICT , O VERLAY A zoning district superimposed over one or more underlying base zoning districts that imposes standards and requirements in addition to those required by the underlying base zoning district.
