Ground-Mounted Signs – Type A Description: A freestanding sign that is not attached to any building or structure; sometimes called a “detached” or “freestanding” sign, and located adjacent to a public or private street.

Notes: sf = square feet ft = feet a. All ground signs shall be secured to the ground so as not to create a public safety hazard and meet all NC Building Code requirements. b. Shopping centers in the BAC, CAC, NAC, RAC, TCC, CC, OI and TOD zoning districts are allowed one additional ground-mounted sign provided that a maximum of one sign shall be located along each thoroughfare or collector road adjacent to the development. The additional ground-mounted sign shall be no more than 15 feet tall and contain no more than 64 square feet of area per sign face. c. In the HCV and MS districts, the sign shall be constructed of durable materials that are compatible with the design and character of the building they serve and shall be designed to reflect the scale and character of the district. (See Figure 5.16.4: Historic Crossroads Village and Main Street Signs.) d. Ground signs in PGO, VLDR, LDR, MDR, HDR, TCR, RT, RNP, MS and HSV zoning districts shall not be internally illuminated.
