Article 11: Interpretation and Definitions Section 11.5. Terms and Uses Defined 11.4.2. Exceptions and Variations

F LOOD L AMP A form of lighting designed to direct its output in a specific direction with a reflector formed from the glass envelope of the lamp itself. Such lamps are so designated by the manufacturers and are typically used in residential outdoor area lighting. F LOOD L IGHT A form of lighting designed to direct its output, more or less in a specific direction, with reflecting or refracting elements located external to the lamp.

F LOOD OR F LOODING A general and temporary condition of partial or complete inundation of normally dry land areas from:

(1) The overflow of inland waters; and/or

(2) The unusual and rapid accumulation or runoff of surface waters from any source.

F LOOD P RONE A REA See Floodplain.

F LOOD Z ONE A geographical area shown on a Flood Hazard Boundary Map or Flood Insurance Rate Map that reflects the severity or type of flooding in the area.

F LOODPLAIN Any land area susceptible to inundation by water from any source.

F LOODPLAIN A DMINISTRATOR The individual appointed to administer and enforce the floodplain management regulations. See “Town Engineer.” F LOODPLAIN D EVELOPMENT P ERMIT A pre-development permit required to show conformance with the floodplain management provisions of this Ordinance. See Section 2.5.9. F LOODPLAIN M ANAGEMENT The operation of an overall program of corrective and preventive measures for reducing flood damage and preserving and enhancing, where possible, natural resources in the floodplain, including, but not limited to, emergency preparedness plans, flood control works, floodplain management regulations, and open space plans. F LOODPLAIN M ANAGEMENT R EGULATIONS The floodplain management regulations in this Ordinance and other building codes, health regulations, special purpose ordinances, and other applications of police power that control development in flood- prone areas. This term describes federal, state, or local regulations, in any combination thereof, that provide standards for preventing and reducing flood loss and damage. F LOODPROOFING Any combination of structural and nonstructural additions, changes, or adjustments to structures that reduce or eliminate flood damage to real estate or improved real property, water and sanitation facilities, structures, and their contents.
