Article 11: Interpretation and Definitions Section 11.5. Terms and Uses Defined 11.4.3. Illuminated Signs

S IGN , P OLITICAL A sign attracting attention to political candidates or political issues and regulated as a temporary sign.

S IGN , P ORTABLE Any sign that rests upon the ground, a structure, frame, building, or other surface; such signs include but are not limited to the following: trailer signs, sandwich board signs, and sidewalk or curb signs. S IGN , PROJECTION FASCIA A sign attached to and projecting out from a building face or wall, generally at a right angle to the building and that does not swing. S IGN , SIDEWALK A type of portable sign that is intended to be placed on a hard surface, most commonly a sidewalk. These signs include A-frame signs, signs that are not suspended from the top member of an A-frame sign, signs with weighted bases, sandwich board signs, and comparable signs. S IGN , SILHOUETTE A sign that is illuminated by casting or reflecting light behind the sign so as to create a silhouette or halo around the outer perimeter of the sign. Sometimes referred to as a “halo” sign. S IGN , SOCK A temporary sign constructed of flexible material designed to fit over a permanent sign, face, or mount. Sock signs are typically installed while a new permanent sign is being designed or fabricated. S IGN , SWING A sign that is suspended from a horizontal support (a swingpost) that is attached to a vertical support mounted to the ground. A swing sign may also include riders.

S IGN , TEMPORARY A sign that can be used only for a designated period of time.

S ITE P LAN A PPROVAL See Section 2.5.7.

S ITE -S PECIFIC D EVELOPMENT P LAN A plan submitted to the Town as part of an application for a Special Use Permit or Site Plan Approval in accordance with the provisions of N.C.G.S. 160A-385.1 for local designation of site-specific development plans for the purposes of establishing vesting.
