A favorite multi-stem summer flowering small tree. Numerous cultivars available. Fruit can become quite a nuisance. “Rotundiloba” is becoming a popular cultivar. Not recommended for small residential setting. Thorns can be quite painful. A favorite evergreen that needs plenty of room. Best to leave lower branches. Somewhat messy tree- large coarse leaves - abundant fruiting capabilities. Blue-gray foliage - many cultivars available. Not a great ornamental but a functional evergreen screen. Excellent fall color. Resistant to most insects and diseases. Good medium-sized evergreen tree for shaded spaces. Atropurpurea is most popular variety because of purple foliage. Popular fast-growing early- blooming medium-sized tree. Nice clean oak. For lawns or large planters. Shrubby type oak often growing in poor, sandy soils. A good shade tree for poor soils. Nondescript characteristics. Survives in worst locations and conditions. Several varieties are quite acceptable. Good open area tree. Not recommended for small occupied spaces. Best of lindens which tolerate adverse conditions.
